Our second collaboration with GDI.
Following the success and learnings of WS2, we were invited to conceptualize the adaptive re-use of an existing carpark asset.
We were immediately excited by the opportunities the existing precast structure of the carpark provided. A unique residential refit that celebrated the structure and brought life to the benign site frontages of Wellington and Peir Streets, was proposed and adopted. Credit to the City of Perth in understanding the opportunity and supporting the merit of the new use.
Above the repurposed carpark podium, a hybrid structure was proposed to provide the commercial floors. This hybrid, was adopted to limit the strengthening required of the existing carpark structure and the use of concrete overall.
Minor alterations were proposed to the existing carpark strucure, to limit demolition and accommodate the mixed use nature of the project. A significant outcome of these alterations included the much needed activation of the Wellington and Peir Street frontages.
